I am a pure mathematician. This means that instead of using mathematics to do something else, mathematics is what I do for a job!
I write down my work in mathematical papers, which then get printed in mathematical journals and then other mathematicians from all over the world read these papers and discuss their discoveries. Mathematics is truly international. Usually, English is a common international language, but people in other countries would sometimes write their mathematical papers in other languages, for example in French and in Russian.
My papers, as well as other mathematical papers, can have very complicated titles such as `
Rationality of cubic fourfolds' or
`Chow groups of singularities’, however, the basic ideas are often go back to simple mathematics.Numbers, Algebra, Geometry and Fractions are all part of what I do.
Sometimes I work with symmetries: rotating a square gives four symmetries, pentagon has five rotations, and so on. More interestingly, these also apply to 3D shapes, such a cube or an icosahedron. These have lots of symmetries.
Sometimes I work with prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11… Recently, a number 43 popped up in my work. In fact it was 129, but I factored 129 = 3 x 43. There were 129 symmetries of a certain shape: a cubic in five dimensions.
