After finishing my PhD next year, I would like a job in science communications. In the past couple of years I have developed a real passion for communicating maths (and all sciences) either digitally via social medias and article writing or in person for example by doing science outreach and engagement activities in schools and at science fairs etc. I think that public engagement with science is really important and it is also a great way to help to increase aspirations in under-represented groups in maths (like women).
After finishing my PhD, I am looking to find a postdoctoral researcher position; these are short term contracts typically between 6months and 3years, which are usually part of a larger research project. I would like one looking at insects with weather radar, but I am open to something more atmospheric or engineering-based too.
After I finish my PhD, I would really like to pursue a career in Science Policy. This could involve working in a Government Office or for a Not-for-profit organisation working to develop policies and laws based around scientific research. It would also involve making sure that the science behind any policies is made accessible to the general public so they can feel confident in science related policies.
