• Question: if you could meet someone dead or alive who would it be and why?

      Among the dead I’d like to meet the eccentric mathematician Paul Erdős and ask him questions about his life as a travelling mathematician. Then I’d inform my collaborators so that we can write a paper together and have a Erdős number 1 (my current is Erdős number 4).

      Bernouli because he was interested in uncertainty – and gambling
      Edward Lorenz for chaos theory and self-organisation
      Mandelbrot because he also explored chaos theory and self-organisation

      Florence Nightingale – she has been a hero to me for years. She was a statistician and communicated medical statistics so well that she completely changed how we design hospitals. She was given the highest medal by both sides in the Crimean War for her work on how to prevent deaths by disease on the battlefield.
      She was probably queer and definitely disabled with a fatigue illness. In fact, she did almost all her work from her bed!

      Probably Alan Turing, as his work in Math Biology was really fascinating and he could teach me how to be a code breaker
