  It’s not an exciting story I’m afraid! I finished my Ph.D. and wanted to move to live with my (then) partner so I looked for research jobs at the nearby university. There were lots of statistics jobs so I brushed up on my stats, applied for some and accepted the first one who made a decent wage offer!
  
  The more interesting answer is when did I decide to keep working with medical models and statistics. Despite the practical reasons for taking that first job, I found I really really enjoyed it, so when the funding for that job came to an end, I decided to stay in the area and moved to Cambridge for a similar job.
